J-Town

I am spending the summer in Jerusalem, at the Hebrew University. I am taking the opportunity to improve my Hebrew and do some research.

Yesterday (Friday) we went into the Old City to watch the arrival of Shabbat at the Western Wall. Singing, dancing, prayer and jubilation greeted the going down of the sun; as the Muslim Imam called out his faithful to prayer, the Jews sang their Sabbath songs. I met a friend of mine, Aaron, a Jew, who hadn't celebrated Shabbat for 2 years. He was so happy, beaming from ear to ear as he came up to me to give me a hug.

What a place!
